South African Players Based Abroad

It wasn’t the best of weekends for SA’s overseas contingency.

Here’s how they fared for their respective teams:

Lars Veldwijk

The Bafana Bafana striker was in scintillating form this weekend, notching up a hat-trick as Sparta Rotterdam thrashed Utrecht FC 5-2.

It was the lanky striker’s 13th goal of the season in 13 outings in the Dutch Second Division.

Siphiwe Tshabalala

“Shabba” came on in the second half as his Turkish SuperLig outfit Erzurumspor claimed a hard fought 2-1 win over Goztepe, but still finds locked in 17th spot though they are now just a single point from relegation safety.

Lebogang Mothiba

The FC Strasbourg man could do little to trouble his former side as they played to a goalless draw against Lille in the French Ligue 1.

Keaghan Jacobs

Jacobs featured the entire 90 minutes for Livingston as they held Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to a 0-0 draw.

Percy Tau

The Bafana Bafana man completed the entire match as Union Saint-Gilloise went down 2-1 against log leaders Mechelen. The result leaves them unmoved in second spot, six points adrift of top spot.

Kurt Abrahams

Despite playing the full 90 minutes, Abrahams’ side Westerlo lost 2-0 away from home to Tubize in the Belgium Second Division B.
