Real Madrid SACK Head Coach Julen Lopetegui!

Real Madrid have sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui barely four and a half months in charge at the Bernabeu.

The Spaniard succeeded Zinedine Zidane in June but the 5-1 crushing El Clasico defeat to Barcelona on Sunday was the last straw, culminating to their fifth loss in six games.

This was also their worst league start since the 2001/02 campaign, which sees them lie ninth in La Liga.

Lopetegui has now been fired twice in the same calendar year after he was shown the exit door by the Spanish national team on the eve of the FIFA World Cup back in July after accepting the Real Madrid post without the Spanish federation’s consent.

The 52-year-old will be “provisionally replaced” by former player Santiago Solari, who is coach of Real’s B team Castilla.

A club statement said “there is a great disproportion between the quality of the staff of Real Madrid” and “the results obtained to date”.

Solari’s tenure will start with a Spanish Cup match against Segunda Division B Group 4 side Melilla on Wednesday before they play Valladolid on Saturday.

On November 7, the Champions League holders will take on Group G’s bottom side Viktoria Plzen.

There are talks that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is considered for the role after being dismissed at Stamford Bridge despite winning the English Premier League title in his first season and the FA Cup in his second season.
