Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has shown his backing for influential player Percy Tau to be awarded the PSL Footballer of the Season accolade.

This comes after what Mosimane described as football analysts campaigning for other players to walk away as winners of the award.

Tau has been the Brazilians’ most consistent player this term scoring 10 league goals, aiding his side to top spot, and has equally been consistent with his performances for the national team, even finding the back of the net in the Four Nations tournament final in Zambia recently.

“I don’t know how you look at it because I was listening to SuperSport 4 two weeks in a row and people are campaigning for who is the coach of the year and people are campaigning for player of the year.

“It’s unbelievable, people have agendas, it’s not funny. But it’s the same culprits,” Mosimane said at a Nedbank Cup press conference on Wednesday.

“For me you can’t compare Percy Tau with anybody, give it to him. He plays Champions League and he’s scoring. He is scoring for Bafana, he is scoring in the league, he is scoring in the Nedbank Cup. Who do you want to compare him to? No, let’s be honest, who do you want to compare him to? Okay you can have nominees, which is good, but give it to Percy.

“He is doing it week in, week out. You can’t compare him to well rested teams. You can’t compare mathematics at lower grade and compare to someone who is doing higher grade. No, you can’t, “ Mosimane further added.

Sundowns are on course to claim a record of eight PSL titles with just seven games to go before the league comes to a close.

Masandawana will make the trip to the Mother City to lock horns with Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, April 1.
