Kaizer Chiefs avenged their Nedbank Cup semifinal last season when they overcame Free State Stars 3-0 in a dominant display at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Dumisani Zuma, Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat got on the scoresheet for the hosts to book their place in the semifinals.
The home side came into the match on the back of a disappointing midweek display against Bidvest Wits were they lost 3-1, and showed character this time around.
Amakhosi went ahead through Dumisani Zuma with a neat finish from inside the box after combining well with Joseph Molangoane.
Molangoane should have made it 2-0 to the hosts but fluffed his shot after been put through on goal, as Ali Sangare pulled off a superb save.
After the break, Chiefs picked up from where they left off as Castro doubled the hosts’ lead, chipping the ball past an onrushing Sangare after a great pass from Siphelele Ntshangase.
Amakhosi were then dealt a huge blow in the 53rd minute after Molangoane was stretchered off the pitch with what appeared like a suspected broken ankle.
Giovanni Solinas’ troops kept dominating possession and put the match beyond doubt when Khama Billiat scored his first match since moving to Chiefs deep into stoppage, as Amakhosi ran out 3-0 victors.
