Orlando Pirates dropped points at home when they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Highlands Park at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.
The Buccaneers fell behind in the 16th minute when a back pass from Gladwin Shitolo was completely mistimed by goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, after attempting to clear the ball which in turn ended up in the back of the net.
Despite upping the game tempo in search of an equalizer, the home side went into the halftime break trailing the Lions of the North 1-0.
The second half saw Pirates coming out stronger between the two sides and got themselves back into the game on the 60th minute mark.
Justin Shonga equalized for the Ghost from the penalty spot after compatriot Augustine Mulenga was brought down in the box.
From there, Bucs took control of the match, pushing Highlands deep into their own half.
This almost paid off with six minutes left on the clock when Mulenga unleashed a cracker from range but Tapuwa Kapini was equally up to the task, making a brilliant save to keep his side in the game.
Owen da Gama’s charges defended with numbers in the later stages of the game and held firm to walk away with a point in their opening league encounter of the season.
