Manchester City hammered Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1 on the final day of the 2018/19 league campaign to be crowned back-to-back English Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola’s charges came into the final day of the season needing maximum points with rivals Liverpool just a single point behind them.
There were early panics when the home side drew first blood but the Citizens were at their usual best as they came out guns blazing in the second period netting all four goals through Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyaad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan, to all but successfully defend their title (their sixth overall).
Liverpool on the other hand beat Wolves 2-0 at Anfield, courtesy of goals by African duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The pair also finished as the league’s top goalscorers on 22 goals alongside another African Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Reds had a few more individual awards as Allison Becker won the Golden Glove Award, Trent Alexander-Arnold won award for most assists by a defender (13) while Virgil Van Dyk won the coveted Player of the Season accolade.
Despite falling short of their first league title in 30 years, Liverpool have a chance to salvage their impressive season when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the UEFA Champions League in Madrid on June 1.
