Liverpool produced one of the biggest upsets in UEFA Champions League football when they humiliated Barcelona 4-0 in the second semi-final clash at Anfield on Wednesday night to claim a 4-3 aggregate score win and advance to the final.
The Catalans were firm favourites to book a final berth following their 3-0 first leg win, but the Reds had other ideas and took the lead as early as the seventh minute through Belgium forward Divock Origi.
Ernesto Valverde’s troops struggled to maintain the intensity of Liverpool and were caught napping as Jurgen Klopp’s charges scored in quick succession through substitute Giorgio Wijnaldum to pull the tie level.
Origi netted his second in the most bizarre fashion from a corner kick with the Barcelona defense ball watching and Andre Ter Stegen off his line.
In the end Liverpool kept the Barca attack at bay to see them progress to their second successive Champions League final.
