Kaizer Chiefs Gear Up To Defend The Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to defend their Maize Cup title when they take part in competition in the North West Province.
The four-team tournament will take place on Saturday, 14 July, at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Klerksdorp.
Amakhosi are the defending champions after beating Free State Stars 1-0 in last year’s edition. Chippa United and ABC Motsepe League side Buya Msuthu are the other two teams set to partake.
George Lebese, who has now joined rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, scored the only goal of the match to see Chiefs beat Ea Lla Koto in last year’s final.
The Maize Cup was launched in July 2015 in Delareyville. The now defunct Platinum Stars won the first edition beating Bloemfontein Celtic, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Township Rollers from Botswana, but were ousted by Orlando Pirates in the second edition.
The Naturena outfit will look to finalise their preparations for the match against Mamelodi Sundowns in the inaugural Shell Helix Cup at FNB Stadium on July 21.
