Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the appointment of Shaun Bartlett as the club’s new assistant coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The former Amakhosi striker will assist newly appointed coach Ernst Middendorp on the technical bench after both Giovanni Solinas and Patrick Mabedi’s contracts were terminated.
Bartlett was until recently an assistant to Stuart Baxter with Bafana Bafana for their two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with the Seychelles and Nigeria.
Between 2006 and 2008, Bartlett aided the Glamour Boys to clinch the 2006 SAA Supa 8 (now MTN8) and the 2007 Telkom Knockout.
“Shaun played under Middendorp at Chiefs,” said Chairman Kaizer Motaung.
“We were looking for somebody with a stature at the coaching level. His technical understanding matched the profile we were looking for.
“He will bring with him a lot of international experience gained during his years playing in the US, Switzerland and England. We wish Shaun all the best in this new role at the club.”
Bartlett and Middendorp’s first big assignment will be a league match against SuperSport United on Wednesday at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
