Hype Avenue got hold of the award-winning Afro-pop singer Zamajobe to discuss her upcoming reloaded tour which will be debut in the famous Bassline in Newton (Jhb ) 25th November 2016. If you are a Zamajobe fan you will be in for a treat from the old hits and launching the music of “Thula mtwana” to the masses with a 5 piece brass ensemble. The ensemble will bring everything that Zamajobe has to offer musically, from her subdued yet hard Afro-funk style to her afro Cuban style that she loves so much.
Zama thank you for the opportunity to speak to you, I’m sure like myself many of your fans are curious to know where you’ve been and why the silence?
Well I’ve been on a hiatus for a couple of years but now I’m back and I’m looking forward to rocking and rolling again
The idea of the reloaded tour was it your idea or where you approached to do it?
It was a collective idea that my manager and I decided to do together. I really missed performing and before I went in the studio to cook something new we thought it would be great to live out the body of work that I had already. I wish my true fans feel the same way and come out and support.
I like the idea of playing with a 5 piece brass ensemble, how did this come about?
Well I wanted to bring the album Thula Mtwana to life in terms of performance. That music has very strong brass presence, so I thought what better way to do this than to have a big brass ensemble. The album Thula Mtwana is a mixture of jazz, Afro Cuban, a little bit of house and funk. So it’s going to be an Afro-Cuban party but of course not forgetting my classics from my album Ndawo yami and Ndoni yamanzi.
On your last album there wasn’t a lot of campaigning done for it, will the tours act as a form of campaigning for it and introduce it to some of your fans?
Definitely that’s exactly why I decided to go on tour. It was in a way to launch Thula Mtwana and give people an idea of the music live. I’m really looking forward to it. The music is very vibey and high energy. I think it will be a great night.
When a person has been away from the limelight they get time to reflect about their journey, any lessons you’d like to share to our audience and those who wish to pursue a music career?
Never give up and always keep your faith in this music business.
You are a family person, a mother and musician, how do you balance your time and maintain healthy relationships?
As simple as any working mom. Prioritize, prioritize, and prioritize. I cannot stress that hard enough. It gets hard sometimes but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As your fans what can we look forward to from the reloaded tour?
Hard energy, a good time and just lots of feel good moments.
Zama we wish you and your team absolute success with your tour and may continue to expand as a brand.
Thank you so much until next time when we have new projects we shall link again. God bless
