Were viewers of the SA’s Got Talent finale duped into believing that a three-year-old DJ was doing his own mix, or was his set pre-recorded, e.tv sets the record straight
While his peers are out there playing with their toys, a toddler from Alexandra township has become an overnight sensation as a DJ.
Little Oratilwe Hlongwane aka DJ Arch Junior has already won millions of hearts with his skills.
The three year old, who emerged over a year ago when his father Glen posted a video of him online, added another amazing achievement to his list, when he won SA’s Got Talent this weekend.
He walked away with R500 000 and products from Avon and Celltone worth R35 000.
But the three-year-old DJ’s achievement was almost overshadowed by allegations that on the final episode of the show, his audio cables were not connected to his mixing deck. This left some questioning whether he was playing a pre-recorded mix. However, e.tv Publicist Michael Pocock has rubbished the claims.
“The photo that has been making the rounds on social media does not show the full technical setup of DJ Arch’s performance, which took place at Soweto Theatre on the 8th of November 2015 in the finale of SA’s Got Talent,” he says, adding that the audio cables were connected via the laptop and not the controller.
“There were two laptops on the stage, which DJ Arch Jnr was consistently watching. The one laptop has the DJ software on it, which plays the songs, and the other laptop has a countdown system which cues DJ Arch Jnr. The controller in front of him has a black USB cable connected to the laptop, which is feeding into it,” he says.
Apart from being the youngest DJ in the country, the three-year-old has over 30 000 followers on Instagram and over 100 000 Facebook fans. He is also sponsored by MINI Cooper and is dressed by Guess Kids. He has traveled to various African countries, including Botswana and Namibia, where he rocked the crowds.
