Banyana Banyana eased past Equatorial Guinea with a romping 7-1 win in their second Group B match at the Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday night.
Thembi Kgatlana scored twice while Linda Motlhalo, Refilwe Jane, Nompumelelo Nyandeni, Jermaine Seoposenwe and Amanda Mthandi all recorded single strikes to see South Africa remain unbeaten and on the verge of progressing to the semi-finals.
The South Africans came into this match brimming with confidence after their morale boosting shock 1-0 win over favourites and defending champions Nigeria in their opening Women’s AFCON match.
Kgatlana, who scored the only goal in their win over the Super Falcons, was once again in the thick of things, picking up her second Woman of the Match accolade for her fine efforts, where she assisted two goals and twice got on the scoresheet.
This also saw her take her tally to three goals in two outings, to top the goal scoring charts at the tournament.
Desiree Ellis’ charges will face Zambia in their final Group B match and will need just a draw to seal passage to the last four.
