Former Bafana Bafana striker Philemon Masinga passed away on Sunday at the age of 49 after losing a long battle with cancer.

“Chippa” had been admitted to hospital early last month and never really made a recovery since.

Masinga made 58 appearances for the South African national side, scoring 18 goals and was part of the famous 1996 squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil.

The former Leeds United striker also scored the famous goal against the Republic of the Congo to send Bafana to their first ever World Cup in France in 1998.
