Newly crowned COSAFA U20 Champions Amajita have been handed a tricky draw in Group A of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger.
The South African U20 side are fresh from claiming a record seventh COSAFA Cup crown on Thursday after beating Zimbabwe 4-3 on penalties with the sides deadlocked 1-1 after regulation time.
Thabo Senong’s men have been pitted against hosts Niger, Nigeria and Burundi.
Next year will see a new champion been crowned after current champions Zambia failed to qualify for the junior continental showpiece having won it last year on home soil after defeating Senegal 2-0.
Nigeria is the most successful team having won the tournament a staggering seven times.
South Africa will have a daunting task of making it out of a tough group and have never reached the final, with their best finish coming in 2015 and 2017 which was the semi-finals.
The top four nations will qualify for the U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland to be staged from 25 May 2019 – 16 June 2019.
