Russia Off To A Fly As Hosts Thrash Saudi Arabia 5-0 In World Cup Opener

Hosts Russia were ruthless in their World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia, putting five past a hapless Saudi side without no reply, to record the biggest win on the opening day of the World Cup and get their campaign off to an emphatic start at the Luzhniki Stadium on Thursday evening.
The hosts came into this match under immense pressure as the lowest ranked team in the tournament, ranked 70th, as well as having gone seven matches without a win and considering the state of Russian international football right now.
Iury Gazinsky opened the scoring for the hosts before a double from Denis Cheryshev put the home team well in control.
Artem Dzuyba added a fourth for Russia moments after coming on and Aleksandr Golovin wrapped up the game with a sublime free-kick late in the game to see them claim their first win since October.
