PSL Confirms No Deaths Reported At Moses Mabhida Stadium

Premier Soccer League Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, has confirmed that there were no deaths reported following the fan violence that transpired at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Dr Khoza addressed the media at a press conference on Monday, April 23, revealing names as well as the kind of injuries sustained by people who are victims of the attacks.

Irate fans went on a rampage by invading the pitch, before destroying broadcasting equipment and burning certain sections of the stands, after Free State Stars shocked cup specialists Kaizer Chiefs with a 2-0 scoreline in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

“There is no place and justification for violence in football. (We) publically apologise to the nation following the violence in and around Moses Mabhida Stadium,” Khoza told the media.

“We apologise to Nedbank (all the sponsors) and all those who were injured. We apologise to all the broadcasters, SABC and SuperSport TV,” he added.
