It’s safe to say that singer-songwriter Lira‚ real name Lerato Molapo‚ is very well on her way to reach the height of her career. However‚ with great success comes a lot of envy‚ and that’s something Lira knows very well.
Speaking to Gareth Cliff on Cliffcentral [www.cliffcentral.com]‚ the Feel Good hitmaker recently opened up about her experience with covetous peers in the music industry and how she deals with it.
“I was naïve for a long time around that‚ until something happened that literally pops my eyes‚” she said.
“But where I have kind of made some peace with it is‚ that I understand when things aren’t going so well in your career. And you just don’t understand why the other person is doing so well. You can develop emotions like that.”
She recalled one of her experiences in a situation with an artist‚ who she refused to name‚ that she used to be friends with and had tried to feature her on one of her songs.
“One artist said it quite vocally on Twitter for instance. She reckoned my white husband is why I am successful. We actually used to be friendly. I tried to feature her on a track once. But it’s cool‚ I know where it’s coming from. When it’s all really frustrating‚ you don’t really appreciate the amount of work that a person puts in.”
Regarding how she deals with jealous peers‚ she said she chooses to view it as “as a frustration with things not going right with your own life and you just need an outlet [to lash out].”
