Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Virgil Vries on a three-year deal, to back-up Itumeleng Khune ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
The 29-year-old Namibian international parted ways with Baroka FC recently after just one season with the Limpopo outfit and will now become part of Amakhosi.
Vries joined Bakgaga Ga Mphahlele from Maritzburg United but will now make a huge leap to Gauteng to join the likes of Khama Billiat, Letlhogonolo Mirwa and Andriamirado Andrianarimanana who were added to the Amakhosi roster.
“After Brilliant Khuzwayo left, we wanted to get a seasoned goalkeeper to assist Itumeleng Khune,” the club’s football manager Bobby Motaung told the Amakhosi website.
“We have a few talented youngsters like Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen who need to work with experienced keepers. We welcome Virgil, “ he added.
Vries will look to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Namibian players who have donned the black and gold colours, Mohamed Ouseb and Robert Nauseb, and possibly leave a huge impression at the club.
