Muvhango actor Brian Themba has allegedly been shown the door.
Insiders claimed the producers’ move was prompted by the departure of Ranthumeng’s co-star, Sindi Dlathu, who played Thandaza Mokoena.
The veteran songwriter and music producer, who has featured in Generations and The Lion King musical, is said to have been booted from the SABC2 soapie as producers had allegedly run out of ideas for his character, Ranthumeng.
Said the informant: “It was always hectic for his character because he was always associated with the Thandaza role.
“Producers have been struggling for months to keep his role despite signs that it wasn’t working after they wrote off the Thandaza role.
“He’s still shooting, but his character will be over soon.”When called for comment, the TV hottie confirmed the rumours, but wouldn’t give details.
Asserted Ranthumeng: “The best person to speak to is the Muvhango publicist. We’re busy preparing for a proper exit from the show. And I’ll call you when I’m ready to talk.”
But Ranthumeng is not the only star leaving the show.
Other cast members include Raphael Griffiths (Vusi) and Nqobile Ndlovu (Bongi), who are joining the new e.tv drama series, Imbewu (The Seed).
Claimed another source: “Some of the characters left to join Duma KaNdlovu in Imbewu, but Ranthumeng isn’t joining the new show.
“I guess he’s returning to music or the stage. For now, there’s no production I know of that he’s joining.”
Muvhango executive producer Duma Ka Ndlovu could not be reached for comment and he also failed to respond to our SMSes.
