August 26 will go down in history as one of the most difficult days in the life of Ntombezinhle Jiyane, better known as DJ Zinhle.

On the same day that she released a public statement dumping the father of her one-month-old baby, rapper AKA, Zinhle was allegedly involved in a verbal brawl with a teller at a supermarket in Fourways, Joburg.

Checkers spokeswoman Sarita Van Wyk confirmed the incident.

“The Checkers chain can confirm that an incident occurred in the store which involved a customer and a cashier on Wednesday, following which disciplinary steps were taken against the staff member due to poor customer service,” said Van Wyk.

However, Jiyane denied that she was at the store on the day.

“Thank you for bringing the allegations to my attention. I was home on Wednesday evening and am not sure where this rumour came from,” said Jiyane through her publicist Nomndeni Mdakhi.

According to witnesses, the incident took place at the Pineslopes shopping centre in Fourways where Jiyane allegedly snapped at a cashier.

“She just snapped and caused drama shouting that the cashier was incompetent because she had to wait longer in the line,” said one witness who was at the shop.

Another witness said that Jiyane was not wrong because the cashier did not tell her that she was experiencing problems with her cash machine.

“As much as she blew it out of proportion, I honestly don’t blame her. She told that cashier that she’s always right as a customer. She was screaming and attracted the attention of other shoppers,” the witness said.
