Darren Lehmann has announced that he will step down from his role as head coach of the Australian Cricket team after the Fourth and final Test match against South Africa, which resumes on Friday, March 30.
This comes in the wake of the ball tampering scandal that rocked the Australian team in the third Test match against the Proteas at Newlands in Cape Town.
Earlier on Wednesday, captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner were both given one-year bans by Cricket Australia, preventing them from any leadership role for a further two years. Cameron Bancroft, who was caught on camera tampering with the ball, was given a nine-month suspension.
Despite Lehmann having survived the axe, he has in a shocking turn of events, opted to stand down as coach of the Australian cricket team.
