South Africa registered their first home Test series win over Australia since 1970 in the final test by 492 runs at the Wanderers on Tuesday morning.
Vernon Philander was in sublime form, bowling superbly to take a career-best six for 21 as the Proteas won the series 3-1 to end the Aussies’ 48-year dominance.
Star bowler Kagiso Rabada was voted Man of the Series for accumulating 23 wickets.
The 22-year-old number one ranked bowler in the world took 11 of these wickets in the second match of the series.
It was also a fitting farewell for Morne Morkel ,33, who passed 300 Test wickets during the series and played his last match before retiring from international cricket.
