Banyana Banyana have broken into the top 50 in the world in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Friday morning.
The USA continue to dominate women’s football and remain unmoved in top spot.
Following their recent success where they clinched the COSAFA Women’s Championship title last week, beating Cameroon 2-1 in the final (who are ranked one place above them), Banyana moved up one spot to occupy number 50.
Desiree Ellis’ charges secured their second title on the trot after winning it last year in neighbouring Zimbabwe.
Banyana also moved up one place in Africa, into fourth place, one spot behind Cameroon who they beat in the final.
Ellis also became the first person to win the title as player and coach, as the national women’s team secured their fifth title in six tournaments.
